The swans in New Brighton had to be freed this week when their lake froze over. Apparently the construction workers at the nearby marine lake used their equipment to make a hole in the ice. There were huge pieces of ice next to the lake still today. While we were there a man was breaking up the frozen surface a bit more with a spade while his family fed the swans – and his son nibbled a bit of their bread himself.
